After working in the Industry for many years we are frequently asked the same or similar questions.
We are happy to answer any of your industry specific questions but first please see below common questions asked.
What to look for when choosing a removalist?
All Australian Furniture Removers Association Members are subjected to a rigorous audit process with regular inspections and must either meet or exceed the criteria.
When using an AFRA member they can link you with AFRA’s associate members if you require. Associate members can provide services such as balcony and high lift solutions, Vehicle transport and pet relocations.
Here are some questions to ask when hiring a removalist.
- Is your removalist backed and accredited by the Australian Furniture Removers Association?
- Is your removalist dedicated to the Industry?
- Does your removalist offer their staff training?
- Do they utilize Industry specific Equipment and Vehicles
- Does your removalist offer their own storage facilities that meet AFRA’s High standards?
- Does your removalist offer a high standard business
- Can your Removalist link you with other associate members of AFRA?
Do You have the correct vehicles and equipment to handle my furniture?
We most certainly do. Our trucks are fitted with air bag suspension so your goods will almost float down the road like riding on a cloud. We only ever use industry specific tools and equipment. These may include but are not limited to:
- Furniture Pads – either Quilted or Felt
- Butchers/Crush Paper
- Soft woven ties
- Heavy duty Furniture Plastics
- Bubble wrap
- Fore arm Straps
- Marking pens
- Removalist Tape
What will you disassemble and reassemble during my relocation?
The Coffs Harbour Relocations & Storage crew realise that each circumstance is different. However, it is the responsibility of the client to have electronic devices disconnected and Outdoor equipment and the like already disassembled for the relocation and also to reassemble the same after the move. We can assist you with the disassembly process of single and double, Queen and King size beds. We WILL NOT dismantle children’s Cots/ Cribs/Cradles as this can pose a serious risk for infants if not assembled correctly. If you Require assistance in the assembly or disassembly process of particular items. Please speak with our relocation Co-Ordinator about this.
Will you pack my china, glassware and other household effects?
We Most certainly can! All staff employed by Coffs Harbour relocations and storage have undergone training in our ‘home staged’ area located at our Base. This is hands on training to ensure you receive the best possible service.
Our team have been trained in:
- Pack and Unpack Cartons
- Handle Furniture and Effects
How should I pack my if I have elected to pack my own goods?
If you have elected to pack your own goods we recommend watching the video below from AFRA with regard to packing your own Cartons.
I want to pack myself? What do you suggest I will need:
Coffs Harbour Relocations & Storage can provide you with every piece of packing material for your relocation. You will need strong clean uniform sized cartons – Please don’t use supermarket or other similar style boxes. These are often not strong enough to withstand the weight that you pack into them and will not retain their shape during long periods of storage. Many people who move assume ‘free boxes’ from supermarkets will save them money. This is not the case as various size cartons will also increase your load time and can make it a more costly exercise than anticipated.
White butchers paper or crush paper. Newspaper is best left for reading only as it can leave the print on your valuables.
Packing Tape. Be careful when using different types of tapes; Cheaper brand tapes can rip varnish off furniture or leave sections of unwanted sticky glue on precious items, or they simply will not hold the cartons together. We only use and supply VBM Packing tape.
Marking pens to indicate the contents of each box and the room they came from. We ask that you only write on the tape that seals the cartons as this will help preserve the life of the carton.
Keep aside all important documents and items you will need immediately in your new home.
We recommend packing yourself a survival kit. Contents that may include: Kettle, Toaster, Cup & Spoon, Tea/coffee/sugar, long life milk, Bottled water, Toiletries, medicines and any copies of utilities that need to be connected if not already connected.
Concentrate on packing one room at a time keeping similar items in each box.
Only ever pack heavy items into book/wine/crystal cartons.
Place a layer of crush paper in the bottom of the box. Wrap each item individually.
Place heavier items at the bottom of the box Label each box carefully with your name and the room it is to go into. We ask that you only write on the tape with permanent marker in this instance as we reuse our quality cartons to reduce our environmental impact.
We supply the cartons for most relocations and can collect them from you in a timely manner, ready to be used again if cared for. We always stock the heaviest duty removal cartons to ensure the safest travel and storage of your goods.
Will you give me an accurate quotation?
John has been accurately calculating the meterage of furniture now for the last 30 years. John is a master in his field and can calculate your cubic meters to the tee. Let us provide you with a free, no obligation in home visit.

I have received my Action plan (quotation) but I have more/less furniture than initially quoted. What should I do?
If you have sold or have decided you are no longer taking the items shown at your pre removal survey. Contact our office. We will revise your quotation and make amendments where necessary.
I have received my Action plan (quotation) but my relocation has been postponed. How long are your quotes valid for?
Coffs Harbour Relocations & Storage quotations are valid for 30 days from the date of issue and the work is to commence within 90 days from the date of acceptance.
Are there items that I cannot transport with your company?
Prior to any relocation occurring it is important to know what can and what cannot be transported.
As a general rule Pets, livestock, Collectables and Items of interest i.e.: stamp, coin jewellery collections will not be transported. We also ask that with relation to outdoor equipment any items you wish to be loaded into our truck are of a clean or near-enough-to standard. Our reason for this is our furniture protection pads are re-used and no one wants the protective blanket that contained the old dogs smelly kennel on their household items.
BBQ gas cylinders will not be carried by us unless you can provide a certificate from a Gas Cylinder Test Station certified by Standards Australia, stating the cylinder has been purged. DO NOT ATTEMPT to burn off the gas nor simply release the gas into the atmosphere. Gas is heavy and will not dissipate and gathers in low lying areas making an explosion a possibility.
Lawn mowers, motorbikes or any other petrol driven motor will not be loaded unless cool to touch and have been properly drained first.

Is it okay to leave my premises while the removalists are busy in my home?
In short. NO. You or an authorized representative needs to be at both the uplift and delivery of your belongings. The designated representative needs to be present to instruct the men on the placement of the furniture and effects in your new home and to sign off on all paperwork.
How long can I store my household effects for?
Indefinitely. Coffs Harbour Relocations & Storage can provide storage for as long or as little as you require, we have short and long term storage available.
How much does it cost to move?
For a removalist there is no set price as there are a range of contributing factors that can either increase or decrease pricing.
Removal companies work on either an Hourly Rate System or a ‘Meterage rate’
- Hourly Rate relocations Generally comprise of 2 to 3 men and a truck from when they leave our depot to when they return.
- Quoted relocations are based on the cubic meters disclosed by the customer either at their pre removal survey or advised through a list.
How can I assist you in your quote preparation?
As each relocation is different in their own way. There are many factors that are taken into consideration with regard to the uplift and delivery of your goods.
We need to know as much information as possible to ensure the correct size vehicle and number of staff are allocated to each removal.
Some of the questions we may ask:
- What is the access like? Is your pick-up and delivery address Ground floor Good access? Or are you located on the 8th floor with access via stairs?
- Is there plenty of parking available? Can the Truck be parked close to the loading addresses without disrupting neighbours?
- What is your total declared value? We require the Total Declared Value of your consignment to be stated clearly on your inventory form.
